Alleged Counterfeiter Facing More Charges

A Cookeville man arrested last month on charges of burglary has now turned himself in to the sheriff's office on a violation of probation charge. 30-year-old Matthew David Mullinax of Pickard Avenue was arrested after a police officer made a traffic stop and found that Mullinax, a passenger in the vehicle, allegedly had items that had been reported stolen in a burglary that occurred on Autumn Avenue. He also reportedly had several counterfeit tens and twenties that police believe were made using a computer printer. Federal authorities are investigating the counterfeiting case, while the burglary charges will be tried in state court. Meanwhile, Mullinax, who was on probation for a previous criminal conviction, has now violated that probation with his latest arrest. He'll be in Criminal Court to answer the probation violation on June 29.
