Fincher Questions Waterways Bill

Representative Henry Fincher of Cookeville says a bill passed by the House this week could present some environmental problems down the road. The bill allows developers to pave over areas that have been considered streams -- if they can get a consultant to show that those streams are actually just "wet weather conveyances." Fincher said he agreed with the sponsor of the bill that some changes might need to be made in the current law, but added that he didn't think the bill was the right way to go. Still, the majority of the House disagreed. The vote on the bill was 72-to-22 and it has also passed in the Senate.
