Meth Contamination Probed
The Putnam County sheriff's department is assisting a local resident who recently rented a home that she believes may have been the site of a former meth lab. The woman told deputies this week that she and her family have suffered headaches ever since moving into the home in Baxter. They have also noticed a strong chemical odor. Sheriff's deputy Jamie Greenwood says the family also found some old Sudafed boxes in the home. Greenwood says he also smelled the odor, but could not be sure if it was meth. He had parts of the home swabbed and sent those swabs to the Meth Task Force for confirmation. Officials say homes where meth is confirmed to have been made are sometimes put under quarantine until the hazardous chemicals involved can be properly cleaned up.
