Old Algood School Gets New Name

The building which was used for many years to educate students in Algood will be getting a new program and a new name. The Putnam County board of education has voted to re-name the old Algood school "White Plains Academy." Schools director Dr. Kathleen Airhart says that after the building is brought up to code, several programs will be occupying the space -- including the one now known as the Alternative School. Officials say that name may have garnered a negative connotation over the years, and they are hoping that a new name will help. Airhart says White Plains Academy will also house the Adult High School and two separate GED programs.
