Putnam County Officials Concerned About Stimulus Money
Putnam County department heads are being asked to NOT go online and start applying for various grants being funded with economic stimulus money approved by Congress earlier this year. The county executive's office says a lot of the grant funds come with strings attached and says the county may not yet meet all of the requirements mandated by the federal government to receive those funds. They want elected officials and department heads to check with the office before applying to make sure everyone's on the same page. Some departments have reportedly already applied for some of the stimulus money, but one county official says they haven't heard back yet and says, "if the county doesn't want to fool with them, that's fine."
