A Putnam County woman, who decided to leave her door open to let in a breeze, was interrupted by an attempted burglary. The Heartland Lane resident told the sheriff's office that she had locked her screen door before taking a shower, but soon heard her dogs barking at the back door. When she went to check on them, she came face to face with a man on the steps just outside the screen door. The man then ran away and into a nearby wooded area. The sheriff's department says a portion of the screen had been cut about 18 inches where the man was trying to gain entry. The woman's neighbors had already been looking around the neighborhood for anyone who did not belong, but no arrests have been made.
