Cookeville Council Votes on Gun Ban
A roomful of people who have permits to carry guns showed up at Thursday night's meeting of the Cookeville city council to voice their opposition to the idea of banning guns in parks. But -- after hearing more than an hour of commentary on the issue -- the majority of the council voted, 4 to 1, to opt out of a state law which allows permit holders to carry their weapons into local parks. Cookeville now joins Putnam County, the town of Monterey, and several other cities across the area who have voted to opt out of the ban.
