County Commission To Debate Budget
The Putnam County commission meets this evening to discuss passage of a county budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. County executive Kim Blaylock says that although it's been a tough year, officials have been able to put together a spending plan that requires no increase in the county's property tax rate. Several department heads have made cuts to their initial budget request and the county school system will be getting the same amount of money this year that they got last year, although the source of that money has been moved around a bit. Meanwhile, the commission tonight will be voting on whether or not to add ten thousand dollars to a property tax relief program for the elderly. The recommendation is that the county do that in lieu of participating in what has been called a tax freeze program OK'd in a referendum a couple of years ago.
