Funeral Held For Fire Victim
Cookeville city fire officials say it's a reminder that smoke can be just as dangerous as a fire. Funeral services were held Sunday for a Cookeville woman, who died as the result of smoke inhalation injuries she suffered from a fire last week at her home on Park Drive. 76-year-old Betty Wells was found in the carport of her home by neighbors who had noticed the fire about two o'clock in the morning. She told paramedics at the time that she had heard a popping noise and was attempting to get out of the house. She was taken to Vanderbilt hospital, but later died as a result of her injuries. The fire department says the cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
