Habitual Driving Offender Faces Charges

Putnam County authorities say they are serious about keeping habitual driving offenders off the road. Deputy Matthew Hickey says he was at a local convenience market over the weekend when he saw someone inside the store that he suspected did not have a valid license. The man drove away before Hickey could confirm the status of his license, but the deputy followed the driver to a home on Vivian Drive. The driver, identified as 24-year-old James Cavell Maynard, did in fact have a restricted license and was allegedly not supposed to be driving between his house and store. Maynard was taken into custody for being a habitual driving offender. Earlier this month, District Attorney Randy York said his office would be focusing on the prosecution of such offenders throughout the region.
