Man Charged For Displaying Weapon At Restaurant

Aggravated assault charges are pending against a Cookeville man, who allegedly displayed a firearm to employees of the Subway restaurant on South Willow Avenue. Police say witnesses tell them the man got upset about his order and began cursing workers. He was then asked to leave the business and go somewhere else for his food. The suspect went out the door, but then allegedly lowered his pants, showing a gun tucked in his waistband. He also yelled at a worker, while flailing his arms in the air in an apparent rage. Another restaurant patron apparently found a wallet that the man had dropped at the scene and turned it over to police, who were able to take that evidence and obtain a warrant against 28-year-old Jose Antonio Gonzalez of Crescent Drive. He has a September 14th court date. Police say they were unable to recover the gun.
