Putnam County Budget Committee To Meet Again
The Putnam County budget committee will meet once again Monday night, trying to wrap up their work on a proposed spending plan for the fiscal year. At their last meeting, a decision was made to ask all departments to cut another three percent from budgets that had been presented to the committee. In the county general fund, officials hope another three percent cut will help them make up for a deficit without having to raise taxes or take a lot of money from the county's reserve funds. Meanwhile, the county school board says they are asking for the exact same amount of revenue this year that they received last year -- but they say the funding for that revenue may HAVE to come from a four-cent property tax hike because the revenues from sales taxes have come up short this year.
