Putnam Officers Shot At

Two Putnam County corrections officers were shot at early Wednesday, reportedly by the passenger in a truck that later wrecked in White County. Authorities say 20-year-old Ryan Charles Rogers of Sparta is facing a number of charges -- as is the driver, identified as 24-year-old John Kyle Simpson. MySpartaNews.com reports that the incident began when a BOLO was issued from Putnam County for authorities to "be on the lookout" for a four-door silver Chevrolet pickup alleged to have been the vehicle involved in the shooting. The vehicle was spotted about 4 am Wednesday near Airport Chevron, but when deputies tried to initiate a stop, the vehicle reportedly took off travelling south on Roberts-Matthews Road in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed. The driver evenutally lost control of the vehicle on South Bunkerhill Road and crashed into a tree line. All of the occupants were pinned for a short time, but were later taken into custody. However, Simpson was able to run from the scene and was still being sought. Rogers, meanwhile, was charged with escape, vandalism, indecent exposure, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct in White County. He will also apparently be charged in Putnam County.
