Putnam Schools Seek Energy Efficiency Grants

Putnam County schools director Kathleen Airhart says that she will be meeting next week with Ron Graham, the director of the Energy Efficient Schools Initiative. Airhart says she will be seeking some $200,000 in grant funding to allow the Putnam County school system to replace some light bulbs and to possibly install computer software which would monitor the usage of energy system-wide. Officials say the goal of the Initiative is to utilize a portion of the Tennessee lottery reserves for a loan and grant program to promote energy efficiency in K-12 schools, especially as they are being constructed. Cumberland County has already been awarded a grant.
