Putnam Schools To Use Well Water?
Putnam County school officials are looking into the possibility of using well water to provide irrigation for the athletic fields at a new elementary and middle school being built south of I-40 in Cookeville. They say it may be more cost-effective to do that than to use water provided by the city. City water would still be used for plumbing and other needs inside the school building, but officials say drilling a well to provide the water for the fields may save on long-term operating costs. They're not sure yet just how deep the water table is, but are moving forward with a plan to do the drilling and to use well water if they can tap into a well that provides enough volume for the job.
