School Board Approves Additional Lighting at Jere Whitson School

The Putnam County board of education Thursday night approved an additional $18,700 to provide lighting to the back parking lot area of the now-renovated Jere Whitson Elementary School. But the board decided against paying just over a thousand dollars to light the sign for the school. Board member Jerry Maynard says more schools than not have unlighted signs. Jere Whitson is now occupied, although some final paving and other site work must still be completed. Officials say the contractor -- Midstate Construction -- finished the work well ahead of schedule, as the contracted completion date was in October. The official ribbon-cutting for Jere Whitson will be held on August 31st.
