School Board Scraps Staggered Scheduling
The first official day of the 2009-2010 school year in Putnam County is one week from Monday, and local officials are scrambling to make sure everything is in place. On Friday, the school board voted to scrap a previously approved plan which would have had students going to school on a staggered schedule. School officials had originally hoped to save half a million dollars by having elementary school students in Cookeville following a different schedule than those in the higher grades, but they now say they have been able to save that money in other ways. Next Monday, ALL schools in the county will be on an 8 am to 3 pm schedule. Monday, August 10th is a two-hour day; the next day is a teacher training day, and the first full day of school will be Wednesday, August 12th.
