Annexation To Come Before Cookeville Council
The Cookeville city council will be talking about annexation when they meet this evening. The council will hold a public hearing and consider on first reading an ordinance which would annex several pieces of property in the area of Freehill Road and North Washington Avenue. The ordinance also calls for the adoption of what's called a "plan of services" for the area, detailing just when and how the new residents can expect to take advantage of city services. Some property owners in the annexation area are in favor of being taken in by the city, but others say the tax burden will outweigh any benefit they might receive. The issue comes before the council after having been recommended by the city's planning commission.
