Cookeville Girl Named MDA Goodwill Ambassador
Middle Tennessee's Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association is a nine-year-old Cookeville girl, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Brooke Malone is home schooled to protect her health, in part because the disease which confines her to a wheelchair can also affect her lung function. But doctors say that for patients like Brooke, survival into adulthood is common -- if respiratory health is monitored closely. She plays sports, through a structured athletes program for challenged children. And she loves the annual MDA camp - the one time a year she says she feels completely normal. The annual MDA telethon is coming up on Labor Day. It will air locally on Nashville's WZTV, Channel 17. You can see a story the TV station did about Brooke here.
