Cummins (Fleetguard) Announces Job Cuts

Employees of what is commonly known as the Fleetguard plant in Cookeville are still trying to digest the news that 140 hourly workers will be laid off in the coming months. Officials with Cummins Filtration, the company that owns the plant, made the announcement Friday. The assembly line jobs in Cookeville will be moving to a Cummins plant in Mexico, as the company struggles to cut costs in its filter manufacturing process. Cummins made a similar announcement at a plant in Iowa last month. A spokesman for the company says Cummins will maintain a call center in Cookeville and says that they don't anticipate any further reductions. Severance packages for the affected employees are still being worked out.
