Putnam Health Department To Offer Flu Clinic
The Putnam County Health Department will offer a seasonal mass flu clinic next week -- on Tuesday, September 15th, at the new health department location, 701 County Services Drive. The clinic will be held from 8 am to 5 pm, and no appointment is necessary. Health department director Lisa Bumbalough says the Department is urging everyone to get a seasonal flu vaccination to prevent the illness. She says the vaccine is particularly recommended for the elderly, young children and people with certain health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease since they are at high risk for complications from seasonal flu. The cost of the flu shot is $ 25.00. The Health Department will bill Medicare and other third party payors as appropriate. The Putnam County Health Department will also offer H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available. Bumbalough says the seasonal flu vaccine available now is not effective against the H1N1 virus, and both kinds of flu are expected to circulate this year.
