Traffic Stops Lead To Drug Charges

Two separate traffic stops in recent days have resulted in drug charges being brought. Cookeville police arrested 23-year-old Billy Joe White of W. Broad St. on a charge of possessing drugs for re-sale after his car was stopped on Jere Whitson Road. Officers claim that White had a three-ounce bag of marijuana on him. Meanwhile, the Putnam County sheriff's department charged 45-year-old Willard Garth Presley of Baxter with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after Deputy David Blackwell stopped his vehicle on Highway 70. Presley was also cited for tampering with evidence. Authorities say Presley allegedly tossed out a bag of marijuana and tried to grind it into the ground with his foot.
