Con Artists Back At Work In Cookeville

Cookeville police say they're not sure if the same con men are involved, but they are advising residents of a scam in which someone comes to your door claiming to represent an alarm company and asks to gain entry so he can change out the keypad. It happened last week at a home on South Cedar Street. Police say the victim did not admit the suspect to her home and later called the alarm company who advised her that they had no work order on file for the residence. Authorities say the scam is similar to one in which two men posing as employees of the Cookeville Housing Authority knocked on a door and claimed to be checking smoke alarms. In that case, they stole money and other items from the apartment they gained access to.
