Cookeville Residents Given Environmental Award
The Tennessee Environmental Council has given Brian Paddock of Cookeville one of its 2009 Outstanding Volunteer Awards. Paddock, an environmental lawyer and chairman of the Tennessee Chapter Sierra Club transportation Committeee, had a 35-year career as a lawyer and lobbyist, but has spent the past 10 years in environmental law doing most of his work on a pro bono basis. He has drafted legislation, found legislative sponsors and worked with speakers and other individuals and groups to support passage of environment-friendly bills, including drafting legislation requiring a balanced representation on state regulatory boards, and legislation requiring open meetings for local electric coops. He also publishes a monthly newsletter for Save our Cumberland Mountains, and his home has a 6.25kw Solar system.
