Fire Protection Issues To Be Discussed

The Putnam County commission on Monday will be discussing at least two items related to fire protection. The commissioners will consider authorizing Fire Chief Daryl Blair to apply for a Homeland Security Firefighter Grant which will provide funds for 5 full time firefighters for
2 years in an amount of $162,500 per year. If the grant is awarded and accepted, the county would have to fund these positions for the 3rd year. Meanwhile, the commission will also talk about allowing the Putnam County Fire Department to provide help to DeKalb County as needed and to ask DeKalb County to address problems with their basic emergency services.
