Burning Permits Required Through Mid-May

Officials with the local office of the Tennessee Division of Forestry say the recent warm weather is encouraging a number of Putnam County residents to burn brush on their property. But they say such burning is not yet allowed without a permit. Because of the potentially windy conditions that can lead to wildfires, officials say anyone who wants to do outdoor burning before the 15th of May must obtain a permit first. You can get one by calling the Division of Forestry office at 839-2328. In Cookeville, you can get a permit from the city fire department.
