Suspicious Fire Under Investigation
Putnam County authorities continue to investigate a suspicious fire at a home in the Brotheron community over the weekend. According to a report by sheriff's deputy Jeremy Nash, the blaze was reported in the 5000 block of Brotherton Mountain Road, and the caller told dispatchers that a suspicious looking male suspect had been seen leaving the area. But attempts to call back the person who had reported the fire were not initially successful. The homeowner told police that the house had been vacant for about fifteen years and had no electricity to it. She said she had just recently hired someone to tear it down. Meanwhile, authorities say two juveniles came close to starting a trailer fire on West Broad Street early Sunday morning. The two allegedly admitted that they had been smoking after the adults in the home went to bed and had apparently tossed some lit cigarettes into a bathroom trash can.
