Church Officials Dealing With Fatal Crash
Some of the members of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ in Cookeville are talking about whether part of their parking lot should be closed to vehicular traffic after a church member was struck and killed by a car on Sunday. Cookeville police say 65-year-old Nancy Karen Stout of West Cemetery Road died after she was hit by a vehicle that was being driven by 83-year-old Paul Wright. Authorities say he suddenly accelerated across the parking lot, knocking Ms. Stout on top of the vehicle's hood. They're not sure if the accelerator pedal got stuck or if Mr. Wright hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
