Putnam County Residents Voting Today

Today is election day in Putnam County, and officials say the weather could mean a pretty healthy turnout. Polls in the county are open from 9 am to 7 pm today as voters make their choices for nominees in the races for county commission, county executive, county clerk, circuit court clerk, register of deeds, road supervisor and sheriff. Today's election is a primary so the registrar's at Putnam County's 25 precincts will be asking voters to mark which ballot they want to see when they get to the machines. Tennessee does not register voters by party so you may choose either one -- but you cannot vote in both the Republican and Democrat primaries. Officials say sample ballots are posted at all of the precincts to help people decide which primary the candidates they wish to vote for are running in. In some parts of Tennessee, flooding caused a decision to delay elections, but that's not the case in Putnam County, where voting will take place as usual today.
