Sparta Man Gets 8 Years For Cookeville Robbery
An eight year prison sentence has been given to a Sparta man, who pleaded guilty to robbing a local convenience market in 2008. Court officials say 22-year-old William Dell Lewis Jr. agreed to the plea in return for the sentence. Lewis walked into a Mapco store on West Spring Street in April of 2008, pointed a gun at the clerk and ordered her not to touch the alarm. He also ordered her to give him the money and he reached over the counter and grabbed cash out of the register. Police say Lewis was charged in the case after being arrested for a different crime and having his picture published in the local newspaper. They say the clerk recognized him from that mugshot.
