Police Warn Of Check Forgers In The Area

Cookeville police say they have taken yet another report of someone making a purchase locally -- and paying for it with a check written on a closed account. The most recent victim came to the police department on Tuesday afternoon and told Officer Michael Herrick that he had listed an Ipod for sale on the Internet site Local Sales Network. He met an interested buyer at a local market, who paid him with a $100 dollar check. But the victim says that check turned out to be no good. He says the surveillance video of the store may have captured an image of the suspects in the case, and police say they are also working on several similar cases in which perhaps two women are writing fraudulent checks on the closed account of a soldier now serving in the military.
