Campaign Finance Reports Show Top Spenders

Cookeville city council candidate Harold Jackson continues to lead other candidates for city council in spending on his campaign. According to the latest reports, Jackson spent some $8,800 dollars in the first few weeks of July. Incumbent Alma Anderson reported $2,670 in expenditures, while Connie Albrecht spent $2,389. John Donnelly's expenditures in July totaled just over $2,200, while Matt Swallows and Larry Epps both spent in the range of $1,700. Anthony C. Maxwell reported about $800 in expenditures. Three of the ten candidates for council -- including Jim Woodford, Zach Bollen and Paul Spite -- missed the deadline for turning in what are called Pre-General Election Campaign Finance Reports. Meanwhile, in the only contested county-wide race, Democrat Freddie Nelson reported spending $4,557, while Republican Michael D. Lane had expenditures of $1,319. The election is Thursday.
