City Council To Consider Land Purchase
The Cookeville city council Thursday night will be considering approval of the purchase of three properites on West 7th Street, in front of the Rehab Center -- at a cost not to exceed $300,000. The city-owned hospital says the lots are needed for the expansion of their campus. The council had earlier this year authorized city manager Jim Shipley to acquire those properties through either negotiation or eminent domain condemnation. The council will also be conducting a public hearing on whether or not to change the zoning of some property on Old Cavalry Road from a residential zone to one which would allow quarry mining. The city's planning commission has recommended against the rezoning, but has suggested that a new zone be approved that would allow the extension of a road south of that location.
