Court Date Set In False Report Case
A September 13th court date has been set for a Putnam County man, who allegedly lied to authorities about a vehicle which police believe he wrecked on Ditty Road last week. Sheriff's Deputy Jason Phy says he found the truck up against a tree, but found no driver nearby. He contacted the owner of the pick-up who told him that the vehicle had been loaned to 35-year-old Jason Daniel Phillips of Apple Valley Court. At the same time, Phillips was reportedly calling the sheriff's office to report the vehicle stolen. He repeated that story to Phy and said that the keys to the truck had been left in it. But Phy says after further questioning, Phillips allegedly admitted to wrecking the vehicle and showed the deputy where he had hidden the keys. He was arrested on a felony charge of filing a false report and was also cited for leaving the scene of an accident.
