Incumbent, Four New Members Elected To Council
The only incumbent running for re-election to the Cookeville city council was among the five who won election to that body on Thursday. Alma Anderson will be joined by Connie Albrecht, Larry Epps, Jim Woodford and Matt Swallows, who garnered more votes than any other candidate. By tradition, that means that Swallows may be appointed mayor when the council is sworn in next month. Finishing just out of the top five in the balloting was Harold Jackson, followed by John Donnelly, Anthony C. Maxwell, Zach Bollen and Paul Spite. Meanwhile, in Algood, the new mayor will be Terry Foutch. He defeated incumbent Patt Judd, while Hugh Adams and Kirk Dyer were elected to the Algood council. In Monterey, the new mayor is Jeff Hicks, who edged out Richard L. Smith for the job by just two votes. Jeff Murphy, Hershel Bohannon, Billy Whalen, and Rebecca Crabtree Iaquinta were elected to the Monterey board. And, in Baxter, Willie Dale Allison and Greg Phillips won spots on the board.
