School Board To Consider Paying For Road Widening

The Putnam County school board will be voting Thursday on whether or not to pay for cost of widening South Jefferson Avenue in front of the now-under-construction Prescott South Elementary and Middle schools. The board has on their agenda approval of an agreement with the city of Cookeville in which the city would "provide for the widening" of the street, apparently in return for the board paying the cost of that road construction. The amount listed on the board's agenda is $240,904.50. The money would come from a line item called "Other Contracted Services." School officials had hoped to have the new schools open in time for students to start the school year, but weather issues have delayed construction.
