Stranded Motorist Now Facing Criminal Charges

The Putnam County sheriff's department says a man whose vehicle broke down on Woodcliff Road ended up facing criminal charges after police found a weapon in the vehicle, and also found him to be wanted for theft charges out of Rhea County, Tennessee. Authorities say the driver of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Samuel Duane Cochran of Denton Avenue in Cookeville. He and his half-brother had reportedly been to a nightclub in Monterey and were headed back to Cookeville when their car broke down. Deputy Ron Harris says he also found a single-shot .410 pistol under the front of the driver's seat and claims that Cochran did not have a valid carry permit. He was cited to court for unlawful possession of a weapon and also taken into custody pending extradition to Rhea County.
