County Commission May Meet In Special Session
The newly elected Putnam County commission may be meeting in a specially called session later this month in an attempt to get a referendum on the 1981 Financial Management Act on the ballot. A motion to do so was approved last month, but state law says the commission must, technically, approve a resolution asking for the question to be put to voters. The county's election commission on Wednesday approved the placement of two other referenda on the ballot -- one asking for the approval of package liquor stores in Cookeville; the other request liquor by the drink in Algood. If the county commission agrees to hold a specially called meeting, it would most likely be scheduled on September 13th, the same night that the standing committees of the Putnam County commission are scheduled to meet.
