Court Date Set For Accused Child Abuser

An October 18th court date has been set for a Cookeville woman, charged with child abuse for allegedly throwing cans of soup at her children while she was drunk. The case began Monday when police received a call from the woman's neighbor who was concerned about the safety of the kids, one of whom police say is five years old. An investigation revealed that 46-year-old Alanna K. Lashlee of Crescent Drive allegedly admitted that her neighbor had taken the children from her because she was drunk. Lashlee's older child reportedly confirmed to police that his mother had been drinking when she began throwning soup cans at him and his younger brother. In addition to the child abuse charge, Lashlee was charged with public intoxication and domestic assault. The Department of Children's Services is also investigating.
