Residents Eligible For Loans, But Not Grants
Officials now say that Putnam County flood damages from the August flood events did not meet the FEMA qualifications for individual residential assistance. And while many citizens received varying amounts of damage that may not be covered by personal insurance policies, help is still available for them. Private citizens can qualify for the low-interest loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA representatives will be available to discuss loan applications at the Willow Avenue Church of Christ Friday from from 8 am to 3 pm, Saturday the 11th from 9 am to 1 pm and next Monday, September 13th, through Thursday, the 16th, from 8 am to 3 pm. In addition, local donations continue to be accepted from individuals and corporations at the Putnam First Mercantile Bank and Jackson Bank and Trust, both located on West Jackson Street in Cookeville. A flood relief committee is working to establish a hotline for those who need financial or rebuilding help to request assistance.
