TTU Announces Road Closings For Debate

The final preparations are being made today for the Highlands 2010 gubernatorial debate, scheduled to take place tomorrow night on the campus of the Tennessee Tech. Democratic nominee Mike McWherter and Repubican nominee Bill Haslam will square off in the first statewide debate held outside of a major metropolitan area. Organizers say the topics will focus on areas of interest to suburban and rural voters. Meanwhile, Tennessee Tech officials say some streets around TTU’s campus will be closed on Tuesday to prepare for the debate. The closures will include Dixie Avenue in front of the Bryan Fine Arts Building, B Street beside the Bryan Fine Arts Building and Peachtree Street behind that building. Officials say the closures begin about 9 am, and parking on campus will also be limited that day.
