Drug Charges Pending After Traffic Stop
The Putnam County sheriff's department says a traffic stop in Monterey Tuesday night resulted in drug charges being brought against the driver. Deputy Jacob Byrd says he assisted Monterey police officer Derrick Ledbetter in the stop at the intersection of North Chestnut and East Peter Avenue. He says he deployed his narcotics K-9 and alleges that the dog made a "positive indication" on the driver side door and on a purse inside the vehicle. No drugs were found in the purse, but a search of the female driver allegedly turned up two marijuana cigarettes, some Zanax pills, and what was described as a "small tin with a brown powder substance, believed to be meth." Byrd says Ledbetter than transported the female driver to the sheriff's department to obtain warrants on her.
