Former Drug Store Now Owned By Overton County
A former drugstore where the pharmacist dealt illegally in drugs has become an annex for the Overton County Sheriff's Department. According to the Cookeville Herald-Citizen, the building in Livingston was forfeited in a plea arrangement earlier this year. Sheriff W.B. Melton said the building will be used by investigators as offices to interview suspects and witnesses privately. An investigation that began in 2006 uncovered the illegal sale of prescription drugs at the drugstore, often through forged prescriptions paid for by TennCare funds. The pharmacist was placed on 10 years' probation, lost his pharmacy license and agreed to pay $48,000 restitution to TennCare and to forfeit assets valued at more than $500,000, including the building.
