Hospital To Host Diabetes Awareness Event

The Diabetes Center of Cookeville Regional, located at 127 North Oak Avenue, is hosting Diabetes Awareness Day on Thursday, November 18 from 4 to 6 pm. The hemoglobin A1c blood test will be available for $15. “Diabetes friendly” recipes for the holidays will also be shared. Registration is required for the blood test. For more information or to register for the A1c blood test, you can call 783-2587. Organizers of the event say that symptoms of diabetes are easily overlooked and a large percentage of people are not even aware that they have the disease. Symptoms to watch for include extreme thirst, occasional blurry vision, frequent urination, unusual drowsiness and unexplained weight loss. And they say that although diabetes is serious, it can be managed with proper care and treatment.
