High School Students Newly Registered To Vote

About a dozen students at Monterey High School will soon be Putnam County's newest registered voters.  The Putnam County Election Commission last month set up a table at the high school to allow those students who will be 18 years old before the next election the opportunity to fill out a voter registration form. Those who are already 18 have received their voter cards, while the applications of 17-year-olds will be processed closer to their 18th birthday. Election officials say the event was part of an ongoing effort to encourage voter registration and to inform younger voters about the process.  A similar event had been planned at Upperman High School, but had to be canceled when snow forced the closing of the schools.
