Cookeville Residents Hesitate On New Technology

Some Cookeville area residents are proving that its not always easy to accept new technology. Tennessee Tech University this year was offering employees the chance to receive their W-2s online over the Internet. But of the more than 2,000 people who work for the University, just 93 chose to take advantage of getting their W-2s online. The university says W-2s were mailed to the rest of their employees late last month. Under federal guidelines, employers must send out those statements by January 31st. The IRS says employees should normally give the post office at least two weeks to deliver those statements, and -- if they haven't received one by mid-February -- the first step is to contact your employer. If that doesn't work, you can then contact the IRS for assistance. But they also say you have to file your tax returns on time -- even if you don't have the W-2, by estimating your income and withholding amounts.
