Council Continues Discussion Of Liquor Zones
Just three items of new business are scheduled to be discussed by the Cookeville city council Thursday night -- including first reading of an ordinance establishing which commercial zones package liquor stores could be located in. The current proposal, reviewed last week by the city planning commission, would allow such stores only on what are described as major "arterial" streets. That includes much of South Jefferson and South Willow Avenue, along with Spring Street, West Jackson, Interstate Drive and Neal Street. Council members have been discussing just how many restrictions should be placed on such stores for several months -- after a majority of city voters OK'd the establishment of package liquor stores in a referendum last November.
