Former Monterey Police Chief Now Serving Time
Monterey's former chief of police is in the midst of a 90-day jail sentence that he must serve after pleading guilty to stealing money from the town. And city officials say their insurance company will pay the town to cover the money stolen by former Chief Tim Murphy. Murphy pled guilty to official misconduct and theft of over $10,000 back in September of 2010. At his sentencing, the judge required that Murphy to pay the town back $25,800 But Monterey's local newspaper now says that money will apparently be paid to the insurance company that covered losses from employee theft. That insurance company has reportedly sent a letter to Murphy asking for payment.
