Police Say Counterfeiters May Be At Work

Cookeville police are advising local merchants to keep an extra eye out for fake bills which may turn up in the area soon.  They base that advice on an incident which was reported over the weekend at the Holiday Inn.  Police say a maid at the motel reported finding two sheets of paper on which were found photocopies of a one-hundred dollar bill and of twenty-dollar bills.  Police say the man who rented the room used a pre-paid credit card to pay his bill, but they say they are reviewing security video in an attempt to identify the person who may be responsible for making the fake money. There have been no reports yet of it turning up locally.
