Report Due Next Month On Utility Bill
They were supposed to issue a report by February 1st, but -- thanks to the efforts of State Senator Charlotte Burks of Monterey -- a special committee which is studying the idea of putting a cap on utility rates for senior citizens will now have a bit more time to come up with a recommendation that idea. The Senate on Thursday unanimously passed Burks' bill to give that committee until April 1st to come up with a report. Proponents say many senior citizens must live on fixed incomes and should be given some sort of a break when it comes to the rising cost of utilities. The state already has a program whereby low-income seniors can apply for relief on their property tax bills.
